About
Hey y'all
My name’s Jake and I was born and raised in Austin, TX. Most recently I was working as a product designer at a company called Lumistry. As a member of their product and design teams, I designed a B2B, SaaS platform for independent and enterprise pharmacies.
In my 20’s I worked in the local service industry as a coffee professional, team lead, and trainer. The experiences had a lasting effect on my ability to anticipate people’s needs, establish efficient workflows, and combine developed technique with creativity to produce delight.
As a designer I strive to create powerful experiences through simplicity. Early on, I found myself to be a natural design thinker, always wanting to understand problems comprehensively. I value subtle style and intuitive usability.
As a team member I love to ideate and tend to share my work early and often. 2 designers can do more than double what 1 designer can do.
As a researcher I focus on people and established patterns. When researching people I find the most value in face-to-face (or screen-to-screen) conversations and interviews. When researching interface design I focus on existing, effective patterns and trends.
As a presenter I am accustomed to addressing stakeholders and executives. I will generally walk through each element on a screen, explain why it is there, and how the businesses’ needs are achieved through the design. I’ve found that in many cases stakeholders need to be told why a design decision holds value for the company.
On a more personal level, you can expect humor and levity contrasted with ethics and sincerity. I enjoy the classics: food, travel, friends, and nature. In my free time I like to explore the outdoors, see live music, collect cacti, and volunteer with Austin Bat Refuge.
